CHARGING SYSTEM PROBLEMS

This is for a gel-cell battery similar to the stock ones that come with the bike.

 

 

  • A fully charged battery will have 12.8 volts at 68 degrees Fahrenheit.

  • A battery between 12.0 and 12.7 volts at 68 degrees Fahrenheit needs to be charged.

  • A battery that is below 12.0 volts needs to be replaced.

  • The gel-cell batteries should have a life span of 4 to 5 years if not allowed to deep discharge very often. That is why you should use a battery tender if  not using the bike for long periods of time

  • The 650 can handle an additional drain of about 70 to75 watts of constant draw.  Any more than that must to be managed by switching things off, while not at highway Rpm.

  • The charging system does not  charge the bike at idle, so if additional equipment is used, do not leave the bike at idle for long periods of time with those items on.

  • Above 2000 rpm the charging system works at it's best.
